I'm running for Mayor of Ladysmith to help build 

A THRIVING COMMUNITY FOR EVERYONE

     It has been a privilege and an honour to serve on Ladysmith's council since 2022. I originally ran for office to help build a thriving community for everyone and I'm proud of the progress we've made towards that goal. This term was guided by our new Official Community Plan and shaped by renewing critical infrastructure, improving our parks and amenities, strengthening our relationship with St'zuminus First Nation, advocating for investment from other levels of government, and supporting the businesses and non-profits that serve our community daily. 

     

Moving forward, I'm committed to carrying on our progress on critical issues like increasing the capacity of our water reservoirs (a plan now fully funded and at design-stage), the implementation of our Waterfront Area Plan, and reaching a decision on the future of our Town Hall. As Mayor, I hope to lead a new Council marked by an ambition to build and invest in our infrastructure, to improve and expand our parks and green spaces, to attract new businesses, to see an increase in the availability and diversity of housing options, and to lead with a tone of respect and civility as we continue to work towards a thriving community for everyone.

Priorities

There are many projects underway that need continued focus and many other files that need renewed attention or a different approach. These are a few of the priorities at the top of my list. 

Worker Opening Manhole

Infrastructure Investments

  • Complete water reservoir expansions to both Stocking Lake and Holland Lake

  • Develop a transportation strategy with expanded active transportation routes

  • Complete rebuild of 6th Ave. that is at design-stage

  • Strategically prioritize watermain replacements and re-paving projects

Redevelopments

  • Explore future solutions for a new Town Hall and the redevelopment of the Buller St properties through a new lens

  • Initiate concept design and feasibility study for a new firehall

  • Invite community input at every opportunity and create multi-purpose developments that maximize community benefits

Parks, Recreation, & Culture

  • Provide exceptional programming and recreation opportunities for people of all ages and abilities

  • Complete Lot 108 (Forrest Field) enhancements and club house installation 

  • Rebuild the skatepark and bring the mountain bike trail network to fruition

  • Support festivals and events

  • Promote heritage preservation

  • Protect green spaces and acquire more parks

Advocacy and Collaboration

  • Strengthen relationships with St'zuminus First Nation, CVRD leaders, and local MPs and MLAs

  • ​Revisit the current model of Council liaison appointments to ensure consistent and effective community engagement

  • Establish a Youth & Children's advisory committee

Waterfront Renewal

  • Complete final steps in receiving the Certificate of Compliance, pave Oyster Bay Drive, and facilitate the restoration and development of the uplands properties

  • Work closely with First Nations and Provincial partners to expand the marina, restore and develop Slack Point into a park, and build the boardwalk and other amenities as described in the Waterfront Area Plan

Leadership

  • ​Lead with transparency, integrity, respect and civility

  • Support and attend community events and ceremonies

  • Find new and improved ways to communicate with residents
